Lyon have joined Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League Final with an aggregate victory over PSG. The two will meet on May 25th at the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao.
Scorers: Chawinga 41′; Bacha 3′, Dumornay 81′
Lyon began the game with a narrow 3-2 lead from the first leg of this Champions League semi-final, and got off to a dream start when Selma Bacha beat PSG ‘keeper Constance Picaud at her near post after just three minutes.
PSG restored the gap just before half time after a sloppy turnover from Melchie Dumornay in the centre circle from Lyon.
A few quick and simple passes up the field gave Tabitha Chawinga the chance to fire a shot past goalkeeper Christiane Endler from a tight angle.
At this point, a goal from the home side would have seen PSG take the match to extra time, but after a fairly uneventful second half it was a Lyon goal that sent Sonia Bompastor’s side through to the final.
With PSG pushed high up the pitch, a Lyon break saw Melchie Dumornay pick up a loose ball in midfield, only to receive it back via a clever pass in the box from substitute Amel Majri.
Just as Bacha started the scoring in the opening minutes of the game, she also denied PSG a way back in during the final stages of the match with an excellent tackle inside the box.
Despite their home advantage, Lyon were simply too strong for PSG in this second leg and reached the final without too many nervous moments.
