Robinho, the first marquee signing to kick-off the current era of Manchester City’s big spending, has revealed the time he came to blows with hothead Craig Bellamy.

The Brazilian was the first real superstar to join the City ranks on the first day of their huge takeover back in 2008 though ultimately flopped at the Etihad, scoring 16 goals in 53 appearances but failing to really impress.

Now, in an interview looking back on his career with FourFourTwo, the 34-year-old has explained the time he came to blows with Bellamy.

Angry at Robinho’s below-par performance against Arsenal, the ‘explosive’ Welshman let fly at the forward and had to be held back.

Describing the moment, Robinho hinted he wasn’t the only player to clash with the attacker.

“I had a fight with him once, but then who at City didn’t? Some other players had problems with Bellamy, too; he was very explosive.

“In one game we played against Arsenal, I didn’t have a great first half so he started yelling at me in English when we got back to the dressing room at half-time. I didn’t understand it, but from the little I could work out, I could tell he wasn’t saying nice things.

“Glauber then helped me by pushing him away, and he quickly calmed down. I had just come back from a marathon of a journey to play for Brazil and I was feeling very tired. But it was OK, and he came to me the next day and asked me to forgive him.”
