Japanese international winger Ritsu Doan will continue his career at Eintracht Frankfurt. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old will move from SC Freiburg for €21 million plus €1 million in bonuses.
Frankfurt had long been interested in Doan, and made their move after finishing third in the Bundesliga last season. Die Adler (the Eagles) were keen to add creative depth with their qualification to the Champions League and are pleased that an agreement has now been reached.
Doan made 36 appearances for Freiburg last season, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists. He started 33 Bundesliga matches for the Breisgau-Brasilianer last term.
Doan previously spent time in the Netherlands with FC Groningen and then PSV. In 2017, Groningen loaned him from Gamba Osaka before signing him permanently following solid performances. Subsequent similar form then earned him a big move to PSV in 2019.
Eindhoven sold the Japanese international to Freiburg in the summer of 2022 for €8.5 million. According to Transfermarkt, the 57-capped Japanese international is now worth €25 million.
The Eindhovens Dagblad understand that PSV will profit from Doan’s transfer. The newspaper reports that the Philips Stadion club negotiated a resale percentage of approximately 15 per cent of the profit.
In this case, that amounts to approximately €2 million. An additional €200,000 is added because PSV, as a partially training club, is entitled to 1 percent of the transfer fee. Groningen receives 0.5 percent of that transfer fee, so just over €100,000.
