Désiré Doué set a new record by scoring in the victory over Brest, becoming the first player born in 2005 in Europe's top five leagues to find the net. His coach Bruno Genesio is understandably excited. "Every time he comes on he brings great energy and intensity," Rennes boss Bruno Genesio told the Ligue 1 Show on beIN SPORTS. "Of course he has plenty to work on, but he's open to advice and is progressing well."

A skilful dribbler who also works hard for the team, Doué looks destined for a career at the highest level. Yet Rennes will be careful with the 17-year-old prodigy… and few clubs in Europe are better at handling the development of precocious talents. "At the end of last season we decided to give him a chance in the senior team squad," explained Genesio. "What's great is that he is progressing quicker than we would have expected! It's positive! Now he has to keep his feet on the ground and continue doing what he is currently doing. If he does, he has a great future ahead of him!" For now, the youngster is hoping for more game time… and all being well, Desiré Doué will be leading Rennes' post-match celebrations more than once this season.
