Jose Mourinho got the sack after Manchester United faced a 3-1 humiliation at the hands of their fierce-rivals Liverpool on that wintry night of December.

A new man in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, club’s former striker, was brought in to claim the managerial throne at the red side of Manchester.

United zealots all around the world saw their mood getting lifted after that stunning night at Paris. And subsequently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s role at United got turned from interim to the permanent manager.

Right after the good news, not one but many United players sustained injuries, resulting in United not only getting knocked out of the Champions League but also missing out on the next season’s Champions League spot via a ‘top-four’ finish.

And hence, according to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United imposed a 25 percent reduction in salary on each member of the squad.

Though, it, as reported, was not applicable for everyone as there were some unknown names — particularly the superstars of the roster — who had negotiated different terms during those circumstances.

But the majority of the group suffered due to a 25 per cent cut in salaries after a tumultuous 2019-20 campaign.

And the result of the pay-cut has been revealed in Manchester United’s quarterly financial statements.

As the statement revealed, United’s “Employee benefit expenses for the year” recorded an amount of £284 million from the 2019-20 season.

However, United paid £48.3 million more in salaries while they had Champions League football in the 2018-19 season.

The official release also stated that it was a “contracted reductions in player salaries as a result of non-participation in the UEFA Champions League.”

Nonetheless, Man United players got their 25 per cent salary resorted after securing the Champions League last term.

Should United fail to qualify for the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League campaign, the players, in the majority, would witness a 25 per cent reduction in salaries again.
