Fiorentina booked a second consecutive Europa Conference League final after a late penalty sent them through past Club Brugge on aggregate.
Scorers: De Cuyper 20′ ; Beltrán 85′ (P)
After a scintillating first leg in Italy in which Fiorentina snatched a late win, the tie was finely poised as it made its way to Brugge.
The hosts found the start they were looking for to reclaim in parity in the tie however, as Maxim De Cuyper headed home from point-blank range for the opener.
While Club Brugge saw most of the ball in subsequent minutes, they struggled to open up the Fiorentina defence for a second time in search of the all-important winner.
The visitors appeared all but set to snatch a tie-winner in the finally 15 minutes, but somehow they were denied by the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds.
The tie was flipped on its head in the dying minutes when Brandon Mechele’s high-knee appeared to connect with a Fiorentina player in the box, forcing the referee to award the away side a penalty.
The spot-kick was coolly slotted home by Lucas Beltrán to snatch the lead on aggregate with just a few minutes remaining.
