Manchester United held no discussions with Aston Villa over a transfer for Jack Grealish, reports have claimed.

The 25-year-old penned a five-year contract extension with Villa on Tuesday, effectively ending speculation he could leave the club.

Grealish was on United's list of potential recruits for this summer.

However, the Manchester Evening News claims no talks were held between the two clubs.

United instead focused on Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho as their priority signing.

The Red Devils also acquired Donny van de Beek from Ajax, but it is believed the Dutchman was considered a more versatile midfield option than Grealish.

Another factor for United not pursuing the England international was Villa's £80m asking price, which was confirmed when the club avoided relegation last season.
