In a recent report, The Daily Mirror mentioned that Manchester United are keeping a keen eye on Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins. It has been stated that the Red Devils are hoping to get a deal done for the English striker this off-season.

Watkins’ Impressive Form In English Football

Watkins had a fruitful campaign at the West Midlands club recently after he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 29-year-old registered 17 goals and earned 14 assists in 54 matches for Aston Villa last season across various competitions.

The Torquay-born talent led the line well for the Villans as he averaged 2.84 shots per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He kept 43.9% of his attempts on target. However, Watkins needs to improve his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 72.4% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the West Midlands club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Red Devils to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.

Is Watkins A Decent Fit For Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim?

Watkins can find a yard of space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area and is an energetic runner with the ball at his feet.

Watkins is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if needed. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Man United.

The English striker would add plenty of firepower to Ruben Amorim’s frontline. He would even serve as an upgrade over Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at the Mancunian club.

At 29, Watkins is still playing in his prime which makes him a good fit for Man United‘s needs this summer. He has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford and could even help the Red Devils push for European football in the Premier League next season. With all things considered, Amorim would be wise to get a deal done for the England international this summer.
