It’s all change at Ipswich Town right now as the club disposed of manager Paul Lambert after four years at the helm at Portman Road.
An American takeover of the Tractor Boys looks to be on the way, and Paul Cook is being lined-up as the new manager despite being linked to Championship roles since his Wigan departure.
This is the second season that Ipswich have been in League One since their relegation from the Championship, and their squad has had to adapt but several players still remain from their second tier run.
Let’s have a look at the top 10 earners at Portman Road (per Salary Sport) by clicking the gallery above.
Three players share this 10th spot, all apparently earning £3,600 a week at Portman Road.
They’re all in different stages of their Ipswich career – Bishop came through the acaademy, Holy was a 2019 signing from Gillingham whilst Ward has had much Premier League experience and arrived on a free transfer in the summer.
Chambers has been at Ipswich since 2012, so naturally you’d expect his weekly wage to be higher than £4,000.
But he may have received a big drop upon relegation from the Championship in 2019, which would explain quite a lot.
Also on £4,000 a week is Vincent-Young, a flying full-back who has yet to play a game this season due to injury.
Despite his talent and potential, Ipswich are paying significant money to him to sit on the sidelines, which they won’t be best pleased with.
We also have a tie for the sixth-highest earner at the Tractor Boys, with Nolan one of two players on £4,100 a week.
A Paul Hurst signing in 2018, Nolan hasn’t been as effective as he was at Shrewsbury Town, but he’s still a worthy asset.
Another player on £4,100 per week is Norwood, who’s earned his payday from Ipswich after banging in goals for Forest Green Rovers and Tranmere.
Norwood hasn’t been prolific this season, scoring just four times in the league so far, but in the grand scheme of things, the money he’s earning isn’t huge compared to some others in the league.
Coming in on £4,500 a week is Nsiala, who probably hasn’t delivered for that kind of wage.
The defender played just three times last season and whilst he’s been seen more this season with 16 league outings so far, he’s by no means a regular.
Fourth in Ipswich’s highest earners is Freddie Sears, who recently completed his sixth year at the Suffolk club.
Sears is reportedly on £5,300 a week – and that is perhaps why the club have yet to renew his contract beyond the end of the current campaign.
A Wales international, Huws’ time at Portman Road has been blighted by injury and he’s played just 44 league games in over four years.
His apparent £6,300 weekly wage is definitely one that could be spent better and it would be a surprise if he’s still at the club next season.
At £6,500 a week, Alan Judge is definitely a player who is worth that kind of money.
A game-changer on his day, the Ireland international is as creative as they come in League One and despite being 32 years old now, he’s definitely earned the right to be near the top of the pay-scale at Ipswich.
The one anomaly at Portman Road is Monchengladbach loanee Keanan Bennetts, who is said to be earning £18,000 a week.
That does not seem very likely for Ipswich themselves, so that may be the wage that the youngster is on at the German club, with the Tractor Boys paying a percentage of that.
