Manchester United have been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Konrad Laimer, following reports in Germany that Ruben Amorim is interested in the 27-year-old.

Laimer isn't a global star and is the kind of reliable squad player who could be an asset to a United looking to rebuild a foundation from which to challenge the English and European elite once more.

Sky Sport Germany suggests that Laimer has caught the attention of Amorim, a coach looking to put his own stamp on the Red Devils – albeit not through a major spending spree.

However, SPORT BILD have already reported in response that the player is perfectly happy with Bayern, even as a player who doesn't always start, and isn't contemplating a transfer.

His contract in Munich runs for another two and half years until 2027, meaning his future is also fairly secure both from his and Bayern's perspectives.

Laimer has earned a reputation as a big game player, praised enormously by Bayern fans on social media last week for his performance in a much-needed 1-0 Champion League win over Paris Saint-Germain. Even in defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, a game in which Manuel Neuer was calamitously sent off after 17 minutes, fans were still impressed with the Austrian.

At international level, Laimer plays alongside former United loanee Marcel Sabitzer, and under ex-interim coach Ralf Rangnick, who also reportedly recommended Laimer to the Red Devils during his stint in charge. He originally made his name in the Red Bull machine, emerging from the youth ranks in Salzburg, before a 2017 transfer to Leipzig. He joined Bayern in 2023.

At Old Trafford, Amorim currently has Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen available to him in central midfield. There is also the possibility of Bruno Fernandes occupying one of the deeper roles, although it didn't really work for the Portuguese in the recent Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt, with United too porous through the middle in the first half.
