Liverpool have reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké (23) over a six-year contract, according to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins. The Reds were initially interested in Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak (25) and they made clear they were keen to broker a record-breaking transfer fee with the Magpies to lure the Sweden international to Anfield. However, Liverpool also enquired to Eintracht Frankfurt regarding the possibility of signing Hugo Ekitike, who was also a Newcastle United target.
Now, it appears that Liverpool have ramped up talks to sign the France U21 international whereas Newcastle United have now left the negotiating table. Fabrice Hawkins adds that Ekitiké has made it clear he only wants to join Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning Liverpool side. The former Reims and PSG centre-forward notably rejected the opportunity to join Manchester United.
Negotiations remain underway between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt over a transfer fee. Die Adler hope to garner a fee near the €90m mark to part ways with the France U21 international, who lit up the Bundesliga and the Europa League last season with 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches.
