The departures of Lorenz Assignon and Nemanja Matić were expected and Stade Rennais have wasted no time promoting from within.
Baptiste Santamaria once again keeps his place in midfield against Montpellier Hérault SC after Matić’s breakdown in relations forced a move to Olympique Lyonnais, although for how long we will have to wait and see. Rennes recruited Azor Matusiwa from Rennes in the winter window and the Dutch midfielder will provide competition for the role.
However, Guéla Doué may well be the Rennes starting right-back for the future. Rennes often promote their young players and the older brother to Désiré will hope to make the position his own. The two brothers once again start for Julién Stephan and may well become vital parts of the side as they look to finish strong after a poor start to the season.
