Eintracht Women want to make life as difficult as possible for leaders VfL Wolfsburg as first meets second in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga.

It’s 13 years since a Frankfurt women’s team last won in Wolfsburg. Niko Arnautis’ side couldn’t have got much closer to ending that run last season, losing 3-2 after conceding in stoppage time having been in front. On Saturday 3 December (kick-off 13:00 CET), the Eagles will have another attempt at Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena. And the situation going into this season’s encounter could hardly be more fascinating, with first and second in the table set to meet in front of a crowd of up to 15,000 spectators.

Prolific VfL attack

The She-Wolves have enjoyed a perfect campaign to date, taking maximum points from the first eight matches and sitting pretty at the top of the table. “The titles and successes of recent years speak for themselves, Wolfsburg have a mature and experienced team with tremendous quality across all positions,” said Arnautis.

Defender Sara Doorsoun, who moved to Frankfurt from Wolfsburg almost a year ago, also warned: “Wolfsburg have an incredibly good team with great mentality. I don’t know any other side who go into every game with so much focus.” Doorsoun and the Eintracht defence are in for a busy afternoon, as VfL have fired in a league-leading 27 goals.

“Even Wolfsburg have weaknesses”

Instead of worrying about that, Doorsoun wants the team to focus on their own strengths. “We have the quality to create chances in every game. There won’t be many of them in Wolfsburg, but we believe in ourselves and we need the necessary determination in everything we do.”

“Thanks to the great position we’re in, we can play with courage, freedom and also confidence. What’s nicer than playing a top-of-the-table match in a big stadium with so many fans?” added coach Arnautis. “Even Wolfsburg have weaknesses. They’re little things but we want to exploit them. There’ll be a few fans coming from Frankfurt, and we want to put on a great game especially for them. I’m sure we’ll hear them too.”
