Khayon Edwards has joined Estoril Praia on a three-year deal following his departure from Arsenal, where he spent 17 years rising through the academy ranks.

The 21-year-old signed with the Portuguese side until the end of the 2027/28 season and will wear the number 11 shirt.

The move, finalised after a successful trial with Estoril’s under-23s, marks Edwards’ first venture outside English football.

Speaking upon his arrival, he said, “I’m really excited! I can’t wait for the first game of the season.” He added that he is focused on being fit and ready for selection on the opening matchday.

Edwards was one of the most prolific players in Arsenal’s academy, scoring 54 goals and providing 14 assists in 105 youth appearances.

Last season, he netted 12 times and assisted twice in 21 games for the under-21s, helping Arsenal to the Premier League 2 play-off final and earning a nomination for the division’s Player of the Season award.

He also featured in senior matchday squads under Mikel Arteta, including Europa League ties against Bodø/Glimt and PSV Eindhoven, although he did not make his first-team debut.

A short loan spell at Leyton Orient in 2024 yielded seven appearances but no goal involvements.

At his unveiling, Edwards praised Estoril’s progress last season and set his sights on pushing the club further: “Estoril Praia had an excellent season, but we always want more. As a team and as a family, we will give everything for our fans.”

Asked what supporters can expect, he said, “I never give up, even when things get complicated. I will always give my best, 100%, and I will never be afraid of any opponent.”

He also issued a rallying cry to Estorilistas, urging them to get behind the team: “Keep supporting us this season and transmitting that positive energy. It is these good vibes that help us, the players and the entire structure, to take the club to another level. If that is the case, playing at home will have an even more special flavour.”

The move to Portugal offers fresh start for a player long seen as a promising prospect.

Estoril, for their part, will hope Edwards’ development at a Premier League academy can be harnessed into a consistent impact in the Primeira Liga.
