Gower was a surprise inclusion in Vasco Botelho da Costa’s first pre-season training session of 2025–26, joining a group of 24 players at the club’s training ground. He is being formally assessed by the Portuguese club following the expiry of his deal with Arsenal on 30 June.

Having joined Arsenal from Southend United’s academy as a teenager in 2017, Gower progressed steadily through the ranks, helping the club reach the final of the 2022–23 FA Youth Cup and making 22 appearances for the under-21s last season.

He scored once and registered three assists, earning a senior bench appearance for a Premier League win over Fulham and another in the Champions League against Real Madrid.

Despite his consistent development and versatility – he is comfortable as a No. 8, No. 10 or deeper midfielder – the club opted not to extend his deal.

Moreirense, who finished 10th in Portugal’s top tier last season, are now exploring whether the midfielder can adapt to the demands of Liga Portugal.

A move to Portugal would mark his first experience abroad and could offer the technical, possession-based environment in which his attributes may flourish.

No decision has yet been made on whether he will be offered a permanent contract.
