According to Diario AS (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid superstar and captain Karim Benzema should recover fully from his injury in two weeks, following which he will undergo a training programme specially designed by Antonio Pintus.
Benzema has endured an injury-riddled 2022/23 campaign thus far. The 34-year-old was struggling with muscle problems over the past month or so which led to him missing a chunk of matches for Real Madrid prior to the World Cup break.
Having been named in the France squad for the World Cup, Benzema had resumed light training with the national team in Qatar before a fresh training injury ruled him out of the competition.
Following the heartbreak of missing yet another World Cup, Benzema has returned to Madrid and is undergoing rehabilitation. And, it is now being claimed that the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner should recover completely in two weeks’ time.
Following that, Benzema will put on a specially designed “pre-season” by the club’s fitness and conditioning coach, Antonio Pintus to help him prepare for the second half of the campaign.
Real Madrid will resume the defence of their La Liga title on December 30 with a trip to Real Valladolid. And reports suggest that Benzema should be fully fit and ready for that contest.
Benzema has played just 12 of Real Madrid’s 21 matches across all competitions in 2022/23. The club captain, who will be turning 35 in a couple of weeks, has netted six goals and set up one more in those appearances.
Despite his injury troubles this term, Carlo Ancelotti & co. are reported to be uninterested in signing a new centre-forward in the January transfer window. Instead, the Merengues will continue to back Rodrygo Goes to fill in as a striker and provide cover for Benzema.
