Although they got the full three points against one of the top three sides in La Liga, the last night was not a good one for Real Madrid. The Merengues saw two of their very important players suffer injuries, which eliminated most of the causes they had to celebrate on the night.

Vinicius Junior, who scored a wonderful goal on the night to double the Merengues’ lead in the second half, had to leave the pitch because of a neck injury.

But the most painful scenes on the night were put on display at the very end of the match as Dani Carvajal collided with Yeremy Pino while fighting for a ball. The Real Madrid captain immediately went to the ground and his screams and tears made it clear that he was in a lot of pain.

Later tests, and the player himself, confirmed that he has suffered from multiple tears, and would require surgery to recover from this issue. Thus, he is expected to miss almost one year of football.

In such circumstances, MARCA reports that Real Madrid have just announced the renewal of Carvajal’s contract. This renewal extends the defender’s stay with the club till 2026, while his previous contract went only till 2025, and he might not have recovered before the deadline for this contract arrived.

With this renewal, Carvajal would have one less thing to worry about, and he can focus on his recovery with greater peace of mind.

The Spaniard showed his gratitude to the club for this renewal, as he took to social media to convey the following words:

“I only have words of gratitude for Real Madrid and our president, Florentino Pérez. On a day like today, announcing the extension until 2026 conveys what it means to be part of the best club in the world in every sense. The successes we share bring us happiness, but it’s during the tough times that the soul really shows. THANK YOU, REAL MADRID, there’s a lot more Carvajal in white to come.”
