Saving a penalty is a monumental feat in any game but Girona’s Paulo Gazzaniga set a new standard against Athletic Club on Sunday.
The former Tottenham goalkeeper first denied Álex Berenguer from the spot before following that up with a second penalty save after the interval to thwart Iñaki Williams.
When the Ghana international’s kick had to be retaken, Ander Herrera was similarly unable to find a way past Gazzaniga from 12 yards for spot-kick.
His heroics later paid off when Cristhian Stuani snatched a 2-1 win for the hosts in the ninth minute of sadded time after Aitor Paredes was sent off.
