The name of Ukrainian international Lunin has of course proven a surprisingly prominent one at Real Madrid across the season to date.

As much comes with the 25-year-old having established himself as an absolutely integral member of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-choice XI.

Amid the long-term injury recovery of Thibaut Courtois, Lunin was expected to act as backup to Kepa Arrizabalaga, brought in as emergency cover from Chelsea ahead of last summer’s transfer window slamming shut.

Instead, however, Lunin has proven himself a vastly superior option between the posts, with his figures in 19 appearances in all competitions representing some of the finest across the entirety of Europe.

With the former Zorya Luhansk man’s current terms with Real due to expire in a little over a year’s time, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear of talks over a renewal having been pencilled in.

As per the aforementioned Marca, Lunin will sit down with Los Blancos upon the close of the term, to discuss the possibility of extending his stay in Spain’s capital.

The situation of returning no.1 Thibaut Courtois will of course play at least some part in the talks between the parties, with the Belgian in line for a swift return to starting duties once considered match fit.

The hope, though, is that Lunin will nevertheless agree to continue as a backup for the time being, before, potentially, replacing the older Courtois as Real’s permanent first-choice down the line.
