Noel Hunt's side are gearing up for another push at the League One play-off places, after missing out by just three points last term.

The Royals have already enjoyed some big changes off the pitch earlier this year, with Rob Couhig taking over from previous owner Dai Yongge, a move that was well-received by the club’s fanbase, and their transfer business has really started rolling in the last week.

Hunt and his transfer team have already added Paudie O'Connor, Jack Stevens, Fin Burns and Matty Jacob to his squad, and as FLW exclusively revealed last week, the Berkshire outfit were in pole position to land Irish striker Mark O'Mahony from Brighton - a deal which has now been confirmed.

Reading may not stop there though when it comes to transfer dealings with Fabian Hurzeler's side though, as according to The Athletic journalist Andy Naylor via X, the two clubs are discussing another temporary deal - this time for Doyle.

Having spent the first half of last season on loan with Exeter City, Doyle moved to another League One side in the form of Crawley Town in January, and despite the Red Devils' relegation to League Two, the teenager was impressive, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in his 21 appearances.

Doyle clearly left a lasting impression during his short time in the third-tier, contributing towards a last-minute equaliser when the Red Devils met Reading in the league last term.

His standout statistics have naturally tempted the Royals into sounding out a loan for the midfielder, in what could prove to be a crucial deal.

Doyle joined Brighton from Southampton in January 2024 and has made two appearances for England’s under-19's side - both of which came in late 2024 when he was on loan at Exeter City.

Kamari Doyle would be a coup for Reading FC - he could be a Championship calibre player

There is no doubt that the teenager would be an excellent addition for Hunt’s side this summer, providing them with a unique element that could push them up the third-tier next term.

However, it could be argued that Doyle might have already proven that he is ready for a greater challenge, based on his League One stats from last season at such a tender age.

Hitting the ground running during his time with Crawley, the 19-year-old played with experience and flair beyond his tender years, looking to possess the ability needed to operate at a higher level.

Therefore, a Championship loan could provide Doyle with the suitable career progression needed at this point in his development.

Reading, of course, will hope that Brighton allow their asset to enjoy another season flying in League One, but it might ultimately prove to be wishful thinking.
