John Textor has a genuine interest in buying Sheffield Wednesday from Dejphon Chansiri.

The former Crystal Palace owner is reportedly set for talks with the Owls' chairman over a potential deal that would see him takeover the responsibility of running the Championship club, as per The Guardian.

Following a summer of missed payments, embargoes, transfer bans and a stand closure, although most of those issues have been resolved, but not without some consequences, Wednesday supporters are more than ready to see the back of Chansiri.

Whether he wants to let go is another choice. The vice-chairman of the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust, James Silverwood, said that he'd heard that the Thai national was still trying to cling onto power. He also doesn't appear to have budged from his inflated £100 million valuation of the club.

Claim made on John Textor's interest in Sheffield Wednesday

One of Football League World's Wednesday fan pundits, Patrick McKenna, can't wait to see the back of Chansiri. However, after a number of false dawns already this summer, he's not too confident that Textor will be the one to lift the Owls from the darkness.

"I think the bottom line on this is that I'm going to refuse to let this update excite me, because I just don't want to get my hopes up again and then for them to be crushed.

"So it's not a case that I'm saying the rumour isn't coming from a credible source or it's unlikely that he may be coming for a meeting with Chansiri. It does seem quite clear at this stage that John Textor does have an interest in purchasing Sheffield Wednesday, but essentially that means nothing.

"The reason I'm saying that is because he still has to negotiate with the absolute nightmare that is Dejphon Chansiri. So yeah, something could have been agreed between him and he's going to come to the UK to finalise it and then, at any stage of any day, Chansiri just completely throws things up in the air and puts in ridiculous demands and then any negotiations are killed dead.

"There's proven history, many times, of Chansiri doing this in all sorts of negotiations and for something like this, unfortunately, I have no confidence that he will negotiate in any sort of good faith.

"So although, it would be fantastic if Textor did take over, I just can't let myself get carried away. There have been rumours this summer, but they've come to nothing, and it does seem that this £100 million price is still floating about in Chansiri's mind, and it is wholly unrealistic, and I don't think texture would be wanting to pay it.

"At this stage here, I suppose we'll see how it plays out. My cynicism and negativity could be proved wrong, but I don't think that things will be resolved quickly, even if negotiations do happen. But I'm just praying that this is going to signal the end of Chansiri's reign very, very soon."

Sadly, Sheffield Wednesday supporters shouldn't get their hopes up over the sale of the club

With the way that Wednesday's chairman has acted, both in his communication during this crisis period and the demands he has set to sell the club, Owls supporters are right to not get overly enthused by links with any potential new owners, which is sad.

For supporters, football at its core is about hope; dreaming of brighter, more successful days. That's what fuels fans to keep on watching these teams that so often let them down. Most of us are engulfed in a form of Stockholm Syndrome, but it's that glimmer of belief inside of us that will never allow us to give up on our clubs.

We're seeing that flame burn brightly among the Wednesday supporters, and yet they know not to express it too much when it comes to the ownership situation, because they don't want to be let down again. That's a horrible place to be in.
