In response to criticism following the signing of Thomas Partey, Villarreal breaks its silence to offer an explanation.

The signing of Thomas Partey by Villarreal this Thursday has not received unanimous support in Spain. While awaiting trial for rape and sexual assault charges, the Ghanaian midfielder joined Villarreal as a free agent. Even though the Spanish club saw the deal through to completion, it was necessary to address the situation to silence the critics.

"The club is aware that the player is involved in legal proceedings in England," the statement read. "The player vigorously proclaims his innocence and denies all accusations made against him. The club respects the presumption of innocence as a fundamental principle and awaits the court's decision, which will clarify the facts of which he is accused.", Villarreal announced.
