Sunday’s La Liga action featured three goal filled games as Athletic Club extended their 100% winning record at the start of 2025/26.
Celta Vigo stay winless, after a third successive 1-1 draw, and a resilient Espanyol scrapped out victory over Osasuna.
Let’s take a look at how Sunday’s matches unfolded…
Celta Vigo 1-1 Villarreal
Celta have been the draw kings of the 2025/26 season so far and they were tied again at home to Villarreal.
Both sides struggled to create chances in the opening 45 minutes before Nicolas Pepe finished off a superb team move to squeeze the visitors ahead just after the restart.
Celta were in firm need of some late inspiration and they found it in the fourth minute of added time as Borja Iglesias brilliantly headed home from close range.
Real Betis 1-2 Athletic Club
The late drama in Galicia was more than matched at the Estadio Benito Villamarin with Athletic Club leading 1-0 heading into the final five minutes of normal time.
Aitor Paredes nodded home on 85 minutes, but the final seconds were chaos, as Cedric Bakambu scored in the seventh minute of added time before Athletic Club keeper Alex Padilla was shown a straight red card.
The visitors held on and Ernesto Valverde heads into the international break second in the table after maximum points so far in 2025/26.
Espanyol 1-0 Osasuna
Things were a bit more straightforward in Catalonia as Espanyol’s strong start continued with a win over Osasuna.
A win on the opening weekend of the campaign against Atletico Madrid has proven to be a catalyst and the go into the break with another victory on the board.
On a night of few chances in Barcelona, it was Carlos Romero who stayed alive from a half cleared cross into the Osasuna to smash home, and keep Espanyol’s momentum pushing forward.
