Rangers working on deal for £7M Austria international | OneFootball

Rangers may just have finally gotten a bit more serious in the transfer market this summer with reports now reaching us that the club is working on a deal for Salernitana and Austria centre back Flavius Daniliuc, rated at around £7M and under freedom of contract.

The 23-year-old stopper, recently on loan at Red Bull Salzburg, and formerly of Nice, is infinitely more of the calibre of player Rangers are seeking in the squad, his having made an excellent 55 appearances for the Ligue 1 cracks before Salernitana shelled out big money on him, where he then got 42 appearances in Italy’s top flight before being loaned out to Austria in January.

He was a near-ever present for Salzburg, missing just five matches this year.

With Salernitana now relegated, he has no desire to play in Serie B next season, and is unlikely to accept the option to buy that the Italians have on him in the country’s second tier.

If/when he doesn’t accept the new deal, he will be under free agency, and would be a lucrative Bosman for Rangers to secure.

This is infinitely more along the lines that Rangers need – a quality CB with almost 100 appearances in Serie A, the Austrian Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and with a peak market rating at his best of around £7M.

Austrian outlets have sought to clarify indeed on this player that formerly the interest from Celtic was false, and it is actually Rangers who are making the overtures to secure him.

He’s a big lad, 6ft 3, and his calibre of experience includes a couple of appearances for Nice in the Europa League, so he has been around, despite his young age.

As for why Nice let him go on loan to Italy we’re not completely sure, he was a major part of their team that season, but he did say this:

“I am pleased about the transfer (to Salzburg), and very pleased that I can play for FC Red Bull Salzburg. I would like to play as much as possible in the coming months and help the club to win honours. I want to help out and also show what I can do at EURO 2024, of course.”

And he was selected for that squad, so he will get his chance to shine this summer.

Whether he’ll be shining for Rangers next season, time will tell.
