Premier League kit reveals are becoming bigger productions with every passing season.
Top-flight clubs are signing ginormous deals with kit manufacturers like Adidas, Nike, Umbro and so on, bringing in tens of millions of pounds.
That has led to an ever greater emphasis on kit launches, with the world’s top creative agencies, legendary footballers and even celebrities brought on board to hype them up and increase shirt sales.
This summer we have been greeted with a bunch of brilliant kit reveals, so we’ve picked out some of the best ones here. Are there any we have missed that deserve attention? Let us know in the comments below!
Aston Villa’s home for this season is celebrating the club’s 150th anniversary, so they revealed it with an absolutely brilliant launch video (dare we say, the best of the year).
Legendary rock stars Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler insisted on featuring, with Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’ playing during a funny and entertaining 68-second video. The promo peaks when Ozzy shouts at the top of his lungs: “Sharon! Where’s me Preds?”
Manchester United have not had a huge amount to celebrate over the past decade, so Adidas have leaned heavily on nostalgia to promote the alternative kit. And to be fair, it works. It bloody works.
Academy Award-nominated actor Barry Keoghan plays a starring role alongside an eclectic mix of current players, old favourites and… the Angry Ginge?? Hey, like I said, it works, especially with Jaap Stam as a linesman and ‘Born Slippy” as the soundtrack.
Someone at Adidas was absolutely determined to knock it right out of the park when it came to marketing their Premier League reveals this season, because here’s yet another banger from the German kit manufacturer.
Alan Shearer got involved, delivering a voiceover that is sure to give Newcastle United fans goosebumps. Combined with clips of club legends, classic moments from the club’s history, current players in local spots, and haunting music, it’s a stunning promo.
The jersey’s alright, not my favourite from this season, but the reveal is top notch. Members of the men’s and women’s teams (and YouTuber Danny Aarons) are cast as characters in a 1980’s TV show, complete with props from that era. The Ceefax page at the end is a nice touch, and it features a little Easter egg that many will have missed upon first viewing.
When it comes to club gear and kit launches, Arsenal don’t miss a beat. Designed in collaboration with Labrum London, Adidas has produced a wonderful black jersey with pan-African tints, which is reflected in the video reveal.
Ed Sheeran helped Umbro design Ipswich Town’s alternative strip for their first Premier League campaign in over two decades, so naturally enough he’s involved in its promotional material. The kit reveal isn’t over the top, it’s just a nice video of a local lad turned international music star (and club minority stakeholder) publicising his boyhood team.
