Rangers’ links to Brentford’s unwanted left back Jayden Meghoma are yet another depressing direction for an increasing frustrated support. Rangers to weaken with loan signing, unfortunately.
The 19-year-old, a potential loan from the Premier League side, with ex-manager Thomas Frank saying thus:
“I’m very pleased with this signing. Jayden is an England youth international and one of the biggest left-back talents this country has. Again, we had competition from other clubs, so we are definitely doing something right. I like Jayden’s offensive ability – he is quick, has good one-on-one skill and can cross – and he has good defensive ability as well. He is adaptable and can play outside or inside full-back. There is still a lot he can learn, but Jayden is a player we have big belief in. He can help us this season and in the future.”
That was in August last year. He never started a single match in the league, and got his two starts in the EFL cp.
Frank is now Spurs coach of course, and Meghoma had an unproductive loan at Preston in the Championship.
This is the calibre Rangers are looking at far too often – loans of players unwanted by their parent clubs, and that’s the answer to left back?!
With Jefte leaving, Ridvan looking like he’s following suit and Robbie Fraser already gone, Rangers have only the hapless Max Aarons at left back, or as yesterday demonstrated, James Tavernier. Rangers to weaken with loan signing at LB.
And the answer here is another loan of another kid who didn’t work out at his current club?
It feels like Beale and Warburton all over again.
We’ve even spent £9M on two League One players. It’s dire.
As for Meghoma, he is only 19, and that doesn’t scream of the calibre of left back gravity we need in such a key position.
Jefte being sold for between £4M-£6M (depending who you believe) and he’s being replaced by a Preston reject?
Well, Ben Davies, it wouldn’t be the first time!
