Despite winning against minnows Alloa Athletic in the League Cup, Rangers, under Russell Martin, looked far from convincing so far in their domestic outings. However, the Glasgow giants are going strong in Europe as they have done in recent years, and could now make it to the main draw of the Champions League if they get the better of Club Brugge in the playoff.

While the Belgian hotshots remain favourites after an impressive 2024-25 Champions League run, the Ibrox crowd could play a key role on Tuesday night, so that the Light Blues secure a comprehensive victory before travelling to Bruges next week for the reverse fixture.

Defence

Although Liam Kelly got the nod in the weekend’s Cup contest, Martin would restore Jack Butland between the sticks for the midweek encounter. The Englishman has been majestic in Europe, and he must exhibit his mastery once more against Nicky Hayen’s men.

With Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz expected to part ways in the coming days, the Gers are closing in on Brentford teenager Jayden Meghoma to restore parity down the left. The gaffer deployed Oscar Cortes as a makeshift left-back against the Wasps, but he should restore skipper James Tavernier in the starting XI and switch Max Aarons to the left.

Nasser Djiga is suspended for their upcoming Premiership outing, but should keep his place on Tuesday and partner with John Souttar in the heart of the backline. Manny Fernandez would make way for the Scotsman, even though he found the net on his official Rangers debut on Saturday evening.

Midfield

Martin has ample depth and quality in the middle of the park. He rested his regulars against Alloa and relied on sporadic names Kieran Dowell, Nedim Bajrami, Bailey Rice and Connor Barron. Lyall Cameron should be back and reclaim his ‘number 10’ spot, and the ‘double pivot’ of Mohamed Diomande and Nicolas Raskin must drive the show as deep-lying playmakers. Joe Rothwell could be involved from the bench, along with Thelo Aasgaard, who made his debut on Saturday as a substitute, after a brief injury layoff.

Besides Aasgaard, Mikey Moore has also been registered for Rangers’ Champions League squad for their clash against Club Brugge. But the on-loan Spurs teenager might only be introduced as a ‘super sub’, with Oliver Antman and Djeidi Gassama being irreplaceable down the flanks.

Cyriel Dessers was forced to leave the pitch after sustaining an injury last week against Viktoria Plzen, and therefore, could be a touch-and-go for their upcoming game. But they have Hamza Igamane back in action, thus boosting the attacking options. The Moroccan could still leave before the window shuts, but he must get the nod ahead of Danilo, given his flair and finesse up top.
