Rangers fans fume at yet another horrible Ibrox display

Rangers fans are today beleaguered by yet another dire performance by the famous, this time against Minnows Alloa from League One. Fans have reacted to yesterday’s 4-2 win with a real lack of satisfaction, albeit we do recall one comment praising the performance and believing it indicates that Rangers will win the league. Fair play. The rest, however, were a lot less positive given Russell Martin’s Rangers are dire.

Alloa are absolutely not Real Madrid. Indeed, one of Ibrox Noise’s own family members mate was playing for them yesterday (Owen Foster at RB). Categorically, this is not a team that are going to be any great shakes in the world of football. An honourable, hard-working team who gave it a shot. And always will.

Gave it a go

However, the fact is that they more than gave it a shot against Rangers and scored twice. Rangers are in an absolute mess as per usual. Yesterday’s performance was a continued indicator of the struggles of both the signings, the existing players, and this manager.

For all the talk and arguments between tacticians and Andy Halliday about the system that Martin is trying to implement, we keep on harping on about square pegs in round holes. Martin may be trying something that in a long time from now may actually work, but in the meantime, we look absolutely awful.

This is like a long project and yet Martin had plenty of time to implement the same thing at Southampton in the Premier League when he got there. He also didn’t even win the championship when he had the chance with this so-called super system of his.

The system didn’t really work in England. It certainly didn’t work in the Premier League and it is absolutely collapsing in Scotland. And the performance against Alloa was yet another symptom of everything that was going wrong with the Rangers at the moment.

Yes, the team won 4-2 and now we face the next round of the Premier Sports Cup. Very few of us have any real hope we can win the thing, but you never know. However, the manner of getting there was an absolute disgrace.

The starting XI shows that Russell Martin’s Rangers are dire, that he frequently likes to pick and it absolutely did not work on any level. It was tepid, lacking in incision, it was flimsy at the back, the goals conceded were an eyesore.

Continuing on

And yet, we continue on. We continue on with this mess rather than firing this absolutely useless manager who may “have his ideas”, but don’t they all.

The fact is, Walter he isn’t, Eck, Wee Dick he isn’t. He is just a manager for a lower level of football who is out of his depth at Rangers. The 4-2 scoreline probably flattered Rangers.

The penalty was debatable. It was definitely ball-to-handing completely accidental, the yellow was definitely harsh and arguably the penalty was too. But so be it.

At the end of the day, Rangers did win. Results are what counts and we will absolutely hold our hands up and admit that Walter Smith’s football was never great either. But this looks incompetent. Completely incompetent. And how much worse is it going to get?
