PSV Eindhoven took control of the hunt for Champions League qualification in the Eredivisie, downing Ajax by a score of 3-0.

PSV found the start they desperately needed, as Luuk de Jong fired the home side into the need from inside the box, seeing the Boeren take a slender advantage in the Champions League hunt.

Their joy was compounded after the break thanks to Dutch youngster Xavi Simons dispatching from the spot, giving the hosts a two-goal lead before the hour-mark.

Ajax looked to fight back after the game was delayed for 20 minutes for off-field issues, but the wind appeared to be taken out of the sails when PSV doubled their lead.

The three points were all but secured by Luuk de Jong in the final 15 minutes, as he tapped home a superb Simons cross from point-blank range to drive the final nail into Ajax’s coffin.

The superb showing from PSV earns them a three point lead over Ajax in second place, giving them full control of the race for Champions League qualification with four games remaining.
