Saturday's matchup between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Colorado Rapids will be the first game for both teams since Thursday's transfer window closed. The last time these two teams faced each other was two months ago when the Rapids got the better of the LA Galaxy, 2-0.
It was a small measure of revenge from Colorado as it was the LA Galaxy who ousted the Rapids from the opening round of the 2024 MLS Western Conference Playoffs. In the best-of-three series, the eventual MLS Cup Finals winners outscored the Colorado Rapids 9-1.
Both teams have some noticeable differences going into this weekend. The Los Angeles Galaxy has said goodbye to veteran goalkeeper John McCarthy, as well as young star Jonathan Perez.
The Rapids have been busy this month ahead of their rematch against the LA Galaxy. Colorado added four new and accomplished soccer players to their roster as they look to climb up the MLS Western Conference standings.
The LA Galaxy have banked on the offensive efforts of a new big four. Dejan Joveljic and Riqui Puig aren't on the field for the six-time MLS Cup victors. Instead, Marco Reus and Matheus Nascimento have contributed to multiple goals alongside their teammates Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil.
Unfortunately, the young Brazilian soccer talent, Nascimento is ruled out for Saturday's game. He has been pulled from the lineup due to a reported groin injury. That will surely hurt the LA Galaxy's offensive attack.
Colorado added four new players to join Rafael Navarro, Darren Yapi, and Cole Bassett. The Rapids have enough weapons on offense and defense to beat the Los Angeles Galaxy for the second time this season.
Novak Micovic is expected to start for the 2024 MLS Cup champions. Greg Vanney has played around with his lineup some but still kept it consistent utilizing a 4-2-3-1 formation as of late.
Per the usual, MLS Season Pass is an option to watch this match, as well as Apple TV and Apple TV+. Kick-off is 8:30 p.m. MST and 7:30 p.m. PT.
The game will be played in Carson, California, at Dignity Health Sports Park. In addition to going unbeaten in all 16 regular-season games last year, the Los Angeles Galaxy have won all three games in 2025 at home, as well.
