FC Barcelona continue to produce some of the finest talents in world football. La Masia, and even the youth teams of the club, have continued the tradition of producing players who are ready to shine on the biggest stages. Fortunately for Barcelona, these talents have broken through into the first team at the perfect time.
Given the various kinds of financial limitations that the club is currently having to deal with, the emergence of these talented youngsters has helped them ease their frustrations. One of them, however, has taken things to a while new level.
Lamine Yamal, at the tender age of 17, has the entire world in the palm of his hand. The La Masia talent has been a key presence for both club and country over the last year or so and has rightfully established himself as not just one of world football’s brightest talents, but as a world-class player in his own right.
Now, understandably, he is seen by many as the favorite to win this year’s Golden Boy award that will be presented by Tuttosport. However, for a certain Portuguese talent from Famalicao, the rightful winner deserves to be another talent who currently belongs to French club Paris Saint-Germain.
As highlighted by MARCA, 19-year-old Portuguese pearl Gustavo Sa believes that PSG’s Joao Neves deserves the award over Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal:
“Lamine Yamal is younger and had an incredible Euro, but given the consistency Joao Neves has shown, first at Benfica and now at PSG, I think he deserves it more.”
While this is certainly an unusual opinion, and not one that is shared by many, it is understandable why the player would say this. Given that he hails from Portugal himself, just like Joao Neves, his support for his compatriot makes sense in one way or another.
As for Lamine Yamal, however, the wait for the Golden Boy award’s ceremony will not be much longer. In two months, the winner is expected to be announced and given his record-breaking performances for both Spain and Barcelona, many believe Yamal is the clear and rightful favorite.
