After almost five years away, Tomasz Kędziora has re-signed for Lech Poznań. The Polish international full-back has agreed a deal with the Ekstraklasa title challengers until the end of the season.

27-year-old Kędziora has yet to play a competitive game in the calendar year, with the restart of the Ukrainian League delayed by Russia’s invasion of the country. The 25-time Polish international had been playing in the capital for champions Dynamo Kyiv, and has been allowed to join his former club due to FIFA’s new regulations on foreign players whose careers have been disrupted by the war.

Kędziora had been in Ukraine at the time of the Russian attack and had been one of many forced to flee to the Polish border. Since returning to his homeland, he has been training with his former club. International teammate Matty Cash had earlier offered a message of support to Kędziora on his shirt, having scored for Aston Villa against Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Tomek is our pupil, who won the last Polish championship with us. In this situation, it was natural that we want to reach out to him and help him and his family. It so happened that Tomek joined us two weeks ago, he trained with us, and after changing the regulations, we can sign a contract until the end of the season.”Tomasz Rząsa, Sports Director – Lech Poznań

Kędziora was a part of the last Lech side to win the Ekstraklasa, in the 2014/15 season, and followed up with back-to-back Superpuchar victories. In his first stint, he made 117 appearances for the club he joined as a 16-year-old, scoring 5 goals.

Lech currently sit third in the Ekstraklasa, two points behind leaders Raków Częstochowa with nine games remaining.
