Plymouth Argyle take on Hull City in the Championship at Home Park on Saturday.

The Pilgrims won the League One title last season, and they made a decent start to life back in the Championship, but their form has declined since Steven Schumacher departed for Stoke City in December.

Ian Foster was appointed as Schumacher's replacement, but he was dismissed last month after a disappointing three-month spell at the helm, with Director of Football Neil Dewsnip taking charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Argyle picked up seven points from their first three games under Dewsnip, but they suffered their second consecutive defeat as they were beaten 1-0 by Millwall at The Den on Saturday, with Jake Cooper's 83rd-minute header sealing all three points for the Lions.

Plymouth have been dragged back towards the relegation zone, and with just one game of the season remaining, they sit 21st in the table, one point clear of the bottom three.

The Pilgrims' fate is in their own hands, but if they fail to win, they will be relegated if Birmingham City beat Norwich City.

It is also a big game for Hull, who kept their play-off hopes alive as they drew 3-3 with Ipswich Town at the MKM Stadium on Saturday night.

The Tigers showed excellent character to come from behind three times in the game, and substitute Noah Ohio's late equaliser ensured they still have a chance of reaching the top six going into the final day.

Liam Rosenior's men are seventh in the table, and they are two points behind sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion and three points behind fifth-placed Norwich, although it is unlikely they will be able to catch the Canaries due to their inferior goal difference.

David Prutton's Plymouth Argyle v Hull City prediction

Sky Sports presenter Prutton believes Hull will pick up a 2-1 win against Plymouth on Saturday, and as he believes that Birmingham will beat Norwich, that would see the Pilgrims relegated.

"There's a lot of good stuff that's happened (at Plymouth), but they've chopped and changed purely because Steven Schumacher moved on to Stoke," Prutton said on the Sky Sports Championship Predictions podcast.

"Ian Foster came in, that didn't work out, and now they've got a Director of Football trying to guide them over the line, and it remains to be seen if that was a good decision or not.

"You look at the two teams that came up, and what they've done compared to Ipswich, and it's a tough stick to beat them with.

"If Plymouth stay up, it's been a wonderful season for them, there's a lot to like about them but a lot to put right as well."

Plymouth Argyle and Hull City facing tense afternoon on Saturday

It is a huge afternoon for both Plymouth and Hull on Saturday, and both of their fates will be decided.

Plymouth looked to have pulled clear of the relegation zone after a good run of form following Foster's exit, but two consecutive defeats have left them in an incredibly precarious position.

It will be a tough game against a Hull side who must pick up all three points to have any chance of making the play-offs, and the Tigers have plenty of attacking threats that can cause the Pilgrims problems.

If Argyle show the same character as they did in their recent home win over Leicester City, they can secure the victory they need for survival, but Hull come into the game as strong favourites.
