With it being reported by the Yorkshire Post that Fleetwood Town striker Ryan Graydon is on Plymouth Argyle's radar, the signing of the Irishman could greatly benefit the club in attacking areas, but not for the reason you may think.

Graydon had a standout season last year with League Two side Fleetwood Town, which has brought about much interest in the striker.

The Yorkshire Post reported that clubs such as the likes of Plymouth, Rotherham, and Wigan are all among the list who are interested in signing him.

In 34 league appearances last year, Graydon found the net nine times and provided seven assists, making him a keen target for a number of League One clubs.

Having shown last year that Graydon has the proven ability to make the step-up a division, Plymouth Argyle must sign the striker as his capabilities in front of goal could heavily benefit those like the in-form Caleb Watts.

Signing Graydon would positively affect Watts

Having kicked off his third season with Fleetwood since making the move from Ireland, where he spent time with Bohemians, Bray Wanderers, Longford Town, and Derry City, Graydon has enjoyed a positive spell in England which could see him move up the pyramid.

The 26-year-old has made three appearances for the Fishermen this season and is yet to get off the mark.

However, with speculation about the striker's future up in the air, a move to Plymouth could see Graydon kick on from his goalscoring form last season.

With a potential move to Plymouth being in the striker's future, his signature could see other areas of the pitch improve as well as the forward line.

Since making the drop from the Championship last season, Plymouth Argyle have begun their 2025/26 League One campaign with a different-looking strikeforce with Watts, who is commonly an attacking midfielder, playing out of position at striker.

Watts has made a fast start to life for Argyle since signing from Exeter on a three-year deal.

The Australian netted in their League One opener in their defeat to Barnsley and provided an assist in their hard-fought 3-2 victory over QPR in the EFL Cup.

With Watts playing out of position at the start of the season, Argyle boss Tom Cleverley's search for a striker is unsurprising and Graydon could be the answer to his side taking shape.

Graydon can give new look to Argyle's frontline

The Irishman could provide stability, goals, and form a dangerous-looking trio for Argyle consisting of Graydon, new signing Xavier Amaechi, and Watts filtering in behind them.

Signing Graydon would allow Watts to return to his natural creative number 10 role, which could see Watts further improve on the promising form he's shown early on this season.

As Cleverley's team takes shape week by week with the transfer window open until the 1st September, Graydon could be a missing piece that Plymouth need as they strive for an immediate return to the Championship.
