Plymouth Argyle need to finally see some action in the transfer market, as Tom Cleverley hints towards progress.
Plymouth Argyle fans will be desperate to see some action after Tom Cleverley revealed that deals for a new centre-back and striker were both in the pipeline, after Saturday's disappointing defeat to Bolton Wanderers.
The Pilgrims took on Steven Schumacher's Trotters in their second game of the League One campaign, but fell to another defeat, and produced a performance that left supporters feeling rather frustrated once again.
Argyle failed to register a shot on target in the match against Bolton, which further added to the frustrations at the lack of a number nine, and the defending on show was very poor at key moments.
Despite a morale-lifting comeback win over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night in the EFL Cup, head coach Cleverley admitted to PlymouthLive post match that his side are 'desperate' for new signings.
However, after revealing that some progress was being made towards a new number nine and central defender last week, fans are starting to want to see actions that will prove these statements to be correct.
Argyle have suffered two setbacks in their hunt for a new man to replace the vacant number nine shirt, after Rumarn Burrell and Dale Taylor opted for moves to QPR and Blackpool respectively.
After his side's defeat to Bolton on Saturday, where they failed to register a shot on target, Cleverley admitted to PlymouthLive that the Greens were finding it hard to recruit players currently, with geographical issues arising.
The current priority for the 36-year-old has been a central defender and a striker, and the lack of quality in these areas was evident in Plymouth's trip to the Toughsheet Community Stadium last weekend.
As mentioned, the Devon-based side failed to register a shot on target against the Trotters, with some seriously poor defending on show, particularly from skipper Victor Palsson, who completely lost Mason Burstow for the second goal.
Whilst a brace for new striker Owen Oseni on Tuesday night was a key morale boost, it's glaringly obvious that this is just paper over the cracks, and Argyle still need to strengthen if they want to be anywhere near the top of League One.
For the second week running, Cleverley has hinted that the club are working hard to secure a centre-back and a number nine, but there's still no evidence of this, which has the Green Army frustrated.
Frustrations are really at boiling point for the Green Army, with progress allegedly being made, but actions still few and far between, with words being ultimately meaningless without anything coming to fruition.
Cleverley previously stated that he had been hoping to have a new centre-back signed for the trip to Bolton, but as we approach the next game week, no further developments have come to light, other than they hope to have a player in for the trip to Lincoln.
With that in mind, the supporters will be keen to finally see some action to prove their head coach's statements correct. However, the recent admission that the club are becoming desperate for signings is a worrying revelation.
Despite the brief reprieve of Tuesday's success, the league is where Argyle's main priority is focused, and with the lack of signings hindering their points tally, the Green Army will be keen to see action taken ASAP.
