With Barcelona paying a visit to the Parc des Princes in the Champions League next Wednesday, a late goal from Gonçalo Ramos saved Paris Saint-Germain’s blushes as Les Parisiens drew against bottom side Clermont Foot. Les Lanciers took a surprise lead in the 31st minute through Habib Keïta, before Ramos equalised in the 85th minute.

The first real chance from the Parisien hosts came from a driving run by Nordi Mukiele, whose deft chip over the keeper landed off target. The Frenchman took a blow to the head in the process and was reluctantly taken off for Achraf Hakimi – perhaps a little earlier than expected for Enrique ahead of a crucial match against Barça. It would take until the 20th minute for Les Parisiens to get any closer to scoring, this time some great combination play released Kolo Muani down the left side, with a deft lateral ball to find Hakimi, but the Moroccan international’s strike was saved well by Ndiaye.

One of Clermont’s rare forays saw Habib Keïta blast a strike over the bar, yet most of Les Lanciers‘ good work came in their defensive organisation to keep PSG out in the first 25 minutes of the game. Ligue 1’s bottom side would then take a surprise lead through Habib Keïta after a comedy of errors saw Manuel Ugarte fail to clear the ball, the Clermont midfielder simply poked the ball past goalkeeper Arnaud Tenas and a back-tracking Milan Skriniar.

PSG would push to find an equaliser, and when Senny Mayulu popped up with a lovely driven effort past Ndiaye, PSG fans were understandably relieved. Yet it would prove a false sense of relief, as the 17-year-old’s goal was chalked off for a foul from fellow debutant Yoram Zague in the build-up.

Mbappé makes 300th PSG appearance off the bench

Les Parisiens continued their assault to find an equaliser, coming close on several occasions through Hakimi and Kolo Muani. The former then rattled the crossbar on the hour-mark with a first-time strike, as the home side began to pile on the pressure. The hosts hit the woodwork once again through Gonçalo Ramos, who reacted quickly to divert a rebounded long-range strike from Hakimi goal-wards.

Kylian Mbappé was called upon in the 66th minute to make his 300th appearance with PSG, as Marquinhos also came off the bench to become Les Parisiens’ joint highest-capped Parisien with 435 appearances. Ramos, close as ever to scoring, was then denied by a fantastic save from Clermont keeper Massamba Ndiaye to turn away the Portuguese international’s looped header. The number nine would finally get on the scoresheet as a decisively finished from close range one-on-one with Ndiaye.
