Manchester United put in a comprehensive performance to beat Tottenham in the Women's FA Cup Final.
Scorers: Toone 45+3, Williams 54' García 57', 74'
Spurs battled bravely on a hot day at Wembley, but in truth there was only ever going to be one winner in this clash.
Manchester United went close early on from a corner, as Rachel Williams used her strength to get in front of her marker, only to direct her header over the bar.
After a couple of half chances from Tottenham's Matilda Vinberg, United went close again. Lucía García would almost certainly have scored if it wasn't for a brave headed goal-line clearance from Eveliina Summanen.
Marc Skinner's side looked most dangerous from corners, and more heroic defending came from striker Martha Thomas, who used her athleticism to get down and clear Millie Turner's header away from crossing the line.
As it looked like the teams would go in scoreless at half-time, United put together a solid passing move out from the back. When Ella Toone received the ball, she did well to carve out some space on the edge of the box before she let a trademark curling effort fly, and it sailed into the back of the net to give the Reds the lead with almost the last kick of the game before the break.
Williams had been threatening to get on the end of a set piece all through the first half, and less than ten minutes after the break she had the breakthrough, getting on the end of another efficient set piece to double her side's lead.
Things went from bad to worse for Tottenham, when a huge error saw Becky Spencer pass the ball straight to Lucía García in her own box, who gratefully accepted the gift.
García got her brace with a curling left-footed effort, which put the game beyond all doubt and capped off a superb all-round performance.
It was a great day out at Wembley for Man Utd fans, seeing their side lift the FA Cup for the first time in truly straightforward fashion.
