Pierre Sage is set to sign a two-year deal as Lyon head coach, according to a report this Monday from L’Equipe. The 45-year-old manager has reached an agreement with Les Gones to prolong his stay at the Groupama Stadium. Pierre Sage was unequivocally the stand-out Ligue 1 manager in 2024, taking Lyon from the depths of the French top flight to a Europa League group-stage qualification on the final match day. Pierre Sage won 15 of the 22 Ligue 1 games he oversaw with Lyon, as an interim manager because his future with the club was not yet sorted.

Lyon chairman and Eagle Football chief John Textor was considering former Wolverhampton manager Bruno Lage, in charge of Eagle Football-owned Botafogo, to take over at Lyon. But Pierre Sage’s exceptional results, for his debut as a senior head coach, were too obvious to ignore any longer. The outlet understands that Pierre Sage’s two-year deal includes an option for a further year. The option would be triggered if he completes a set of objectives.

L’Equipe add that Pierre Sage, who recently obtained the BEPF – France’s senior coaching licence – was being courted by several foreign clubs. But he only wanted to extend with the club which gave him his senior managerial debut.
