After Jake O’Brien (23), Mamadou Sarr (18) is the latest Olympique Lyonnais centre-back to garner interest in the transfer window. According to a report from L’Équipe, Ligue 1 rivals Stade de Reims have submitted a €10m offer for the France youth international.
Lyon’s defence could evolve significantly this summer. Moussa Niakhaté’s move from Nottingham Forest to OL is set to be confirmed imminently, as early as Wednesday. He will strengthen OL’s defence but also perhaps act as a replacement. Sinaly Diomandé and Dejan Lovren will both be allowed to leave the club this summer. O’Brien, who signed for just €1m last summer, is garnering Premier League interest, notably from West Ham United. The Ireland international will be allowed to leave in the event of a big offer.
An offer has now been received for Sarr, who spent last season on loan at Eagle Football-owned Molenbeek in Belgium. However, Lyon are not keen on letting the France U19 international leave. Reims’ €10m offer therefore looks set to be rejected. Instead, he is expected to remain with Les Gones this season and it is expected that he will be afforded game time.
