On Thursday, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reaffirmed his desire to one day return to Barcelona but has no desire to become club president.
Guardiola has just two years left on his City deal and is coming off a remarkable domestic treble-winning campaign.
Guardiola spent 17 years of his playing career with the Blaugrana, joining La Masia in 1984 at age 13 before leaving to join Brescia as Andrea Pirlo’s replacement in 2001.
In 2007, one year after he retired from football, Guardiola became manager of the Barcelona ‘B’ side for one season before taking over the senior side, where he would win two Champions League titles, three LaLiga crowns, and a pair of Copa del Rey trophies in just four years.
After enjoying much success at Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Guardiola is set on a return to Spain… one day.
“I will return to Barcelona sooner or later. But as president, forget about it.
“To be president, you have to know [what you’re doing] and be prepared – to have knowledge that I don’t have.
“I’m trying to be a good coach – that hasn’t gone too badly in this decade. I will return to Barcelona to live, sooner or later.”
Guardiola had previously admitted last year that he wants to retire as a Barcelona youth coach.
