A new report has detailed the extent of Savinho’s involvement with the wider Manchester City first-team squad in training amid interest from Tottenham.
The 21-year-old attacker has been identified by Tottenham as a potent addition to the Thomas Frank’s frontline for the seasons to come, with club legend and former captain Heung-Min Son leaving this summer and James Maddison suffering an ACL injury this month.
Savinho amassed over 3,000 senior minutes in his first season at the Etihad Stadium, with City enduring a challenging year on the pitch and finishing in third place in the Premier League with 71 points, behind Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, Savinho was said to have been unsure of his long-term prospects under Pep Guardiola as he assessed the opportunity of joining forces with Frank in north London, months after Tottenham’s success in the UEFA Europa League.
Manchester City have bolstered their frontline with the notable addition of Rayan Cherki this summer, though Julian Alvarez’s £82 million departure to Atletico Madrid last summer has meant that Erling Haaland has shouldered nearly all of the goalscoring responsibility for a year.
Guardiola will be hopeful of wide forwards Omar Marmoush, Jeremy Doku and Savinho stepping up and improving their end product this season, with Savinho set to stay at Manchester City beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.
Mail Sport’s Jack Gaughan has detailed that Savinho could have joined Tottenham had the north Londoners been willing to increase their offer beyond £70 million, which fell short of Manchester City’s valuation of a forward considered integral to the club’s future.
Savinho is believed to have his head turned by Tottenham and the attacker’s Instagram stories in recent weeks have, if two and two are put together, indicated a receptiveness to launch an exciting, new chapter in his young career.
City did not wish to sell Savinho but as always, the club remain open to selling a player who wants to leave for the right price, with Tottenham in the end falling short of what Etihad Stadium officials had quoted as an asking price for the Brazilian.
Interestingly, the report mentions that Savinho has been training by himself – away from the Manchester City first-team squad – as he awaited a resolution to talks between his club and suitors Tottenham.
The young forward has shared snippets of his individual workouts from a gym on social media in recent weeks, which can be interpreted as a means of keeping fit so as to be able to join Tottenham training in peak fitness had the move gone through.
In the end, Savinho is set to stay at Manchester City beyond the transfer deadline – though it remains to be seen if the forward has trained in the buildup to Sunday’s trip to Brighton and whether he will make the trip to the south coast this weekend.
