Club Brugge will have left Genk incredibly frustrated to not have at least taken a point. The defending champions were 2-0 up after an hour thanks to a double from Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen. However, the home side turned things around and with two goals in the final 10 minutes to grab a 3-2 win. This result means that Club Brugge have yet to win a game this season, losing the super cup to Union St Gilloise and then drawing with Mechelen before defeats to Standard Liege and now Genk.
Genk’s new head coach Thorsten Fink was able to celebrate his first win as head coach of the side. One of his former players from Sint-Truiden converted the penalty that got the side back into the game. Jarne Steuckers then turned provider with a wonderful ball to the back post which was headed home by Tolu Arokodare. The Nigerian striker has been linked with a move to Trabzonspor in recent days. In added time, Slovakian midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky smashed home the winner from outside the box. The Belgian TV coverage gave the 32-year-old a 3% chance of scoring.
Pressure will certainly be mounting in Brugge, with the side having spent money this summer in hopes of competing at European and domestic level. In the past three seasons, no head coach that started the campaign has lasted until the end of the season. Nicky Hayen will be hoping he can buck the trend, but he will need to get a victory over Antwerp next Sunday lunchtime.
