Sacramento, who were looking to become just the second non-first-division team to win the US Open Cup (1999 Rochester Rhinos), held firm and matched Orlando stride-for-stride until the final 15 minutes of the match.

Orlando City kept the pressure on Sacramento’s back line throughout the contest and it paid off in the 75th minute, when they created a turnover which lead to Facundo Torres blasting the ball into the top corner to open the scoring.

Five minutes later, it was 2-0 and Orlando could sniff the cup. After earning a penalty, Torres smashed the ball from 12 yards to give the home side an insurmountable lead.

Benji Michel, who had a profound impact on the match after coming on in the 61st minute, put the game officially to bed deep into stoppage time with a well-placed effort that beat a helpless Daniel Vitiello.

The Lions will finally need a trophy cabinet.
