Racing Club de Strasbourg have signed highly promising Olympique Lyonnais centre-back Mamadou Sarr (18), both clubs have announced. Les Alsaciens have profited from Lyon’s desperation to raise €100m through player sales to land the 18-year-old centre-back. Sarr is widely considered to be the most talented centre-back to break through the ranks of the famed Lyon academy since Samuel Umtiti. Strasbourg’s outlay to sign Sarr rises to €10m, according to Lyon.
The France U19 international has put pen to paper over a five-year deal, tying him to the BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 club until 2029. Sarr won the 2022 Gambardella Cup with Les Gones as well as the 2022 Under-17 European Championships with France. Sarr is the son of former Senegal international defensive midfielder Pape Sarr. Mamadou Sarr may make his Ligue 1 debut with Liam Rosenior’s squad this Sunday with Strasbourg hosting Stade Rennais.
