The Liga title was decided this weekend whilst Manchester City impressed in the Premier League.
But who were the individuals who shone to make our best XI from the top five leagues?
Simón didn't just put in one of the best goalkeeping performances of the weekend this past Friday, he arguably put it one of the very best all season long.
The Athletic Club shot-stopper was immense as the Basque giants went to Getafe and claimed a brilliant 2-0 win in the capital.
Iñaki Williams was the goalscorer but it was Simón who really shone as the number one kept out all 34 of Getafe's shot on goal over the 90 minutes including a Mason Greenwood penalty.
Truly heroic.
Milan were stunned late on at home to Genoa as the Rossoneri threw away a lead to draw 3-3 with Alberto Gilardino's men.
It could well be the result that ends Stefano Pioli's time as Milan boss but that's not for a lack of trying on the part of Alessandro Florenzi.
The Italy right-back was terrific, scoring one at the stroke of half time and setting up another.
It's been a consistently excellent season for Monaco with the Côte d'Azur club second in Ligue 1 and just a few more wins away from returning to the Champions League next season.
This past weekend saw Adi Hütter's side beat Clermont 4-1 and despite the goal-rush it was young defender Wilfried Singo who impressed the most.
The 23-year-old was a colossus at centre-back as Singo added to his collection of fine performances this season.
Perhaps the biggest surprise across all of the top five European leagues this weekend came at Sassuolo.
The Neroverdi have been pretty poor by their high standards this term, sitting in the relegation places and, before Saturday anyway, winning just six matches all campaign.
Their seventh however came at the hands of champions Inter who beaten 1-0 thanks to centre-back Marash Kumbulla and his marshalling of their star forward line.
Alavés continued their fine run of late form this season with a 1-0 win at Valencia on Sunday.
The Babazorros are now up to 11th in LaLiga, having won their third-straight game with left-back Javi López playing a starring role at the Mestalla.
The 22-year-old netted his first ever for the club with a back post volley to silence the home supporters.
Roberto De Zerbi insisted that Simon Adingra was "the difference" as Brighton upset Aston Villa with a 1-0 win on Sunday.
The Seagulls have endured a difficult domestic campaign this time around with the south coast club struggling to juggle Premier League and Europa League commitments.
But none of that disappointment was on show this weekend as Brighton bested the Champions League-chasers with Adingra showing exactly why he's been linked with a move to Chelsea and Liverpool this summer.
Bochum won a genuinely wild game against Union Berlin on Sunday to pull themselves away from relegation trouble in the Bundesliga.
In a thrilling 90 minutes, Bochum beat the capital club 4-3 with Max Wittek nabbing two of the goals in the first half.
The first was an instinctive finish inside the six yard box whilst the second was a stunning turn and shot that beat Union goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow at his near post.
On the weekend that Real Madrid won the Liga title, we simply had to include one of their players in our Team of the Weekend.
You could say it wasn't exactly vintage Los Blancos as Cádiz were eventually put to the sword on Saturday but when they needed a hero, Brahim Díaz was there to step up.
The 24-year-old scored a brilliant opener on 50 minutes that eased some nerves around Santiago Bernabéu and put the champions-elect on course for a 3-0 victory.
On the weekend that Marco Reus announced he was leaving Borussia Dortmund after 12 years, it was almost written in the stars for the veteran forward to shine against Augsburg.
Dortmund put the Bavarian side to the sword as they thrashed Jess Thorup's men 5-1 with Reus scoring one and then assisting two more.
A lap of honour post-game showed just how much Reus means to everyone at Signal Iduna Park.
Roy Keane may not have been impressed but the rest of the football-watching world was on Saturday.
Manchester City, needing a win against Wolves to keep pace with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, completely dismantled Gary O'Neil's side in cold, calculating fashion.
And it was Erling Haaland who did most of that dismantling with the Norwegian goal machine bagging four in their 5-1 win.
Unfortunately most of the headlines post-game came from Haaland's outburst towards coach Pep Guardiola after being substituted.
He's become something of a punchline this season but this weekend, Nicolas Jackson showed just why he can become Chelsea's attacking fulcrum next season.
Jackson scored twice as the Blues ran out 5-0 winners against West Ham on Sunday to further boost their chances of finishing in the European places come the campaign's end.
Two things that certainly weren't on our bingo cards a few weeks ago.
