Chrislain Matsima (21) has joined Clermont Foot on loan from AS Monaco until the end of the season.

The deal does not include the option to make the loan a permanent transfer. Matsima will therefore return to the Principality club at the end of the season, with the France U21 international’s contract with Les Monégasques running until the summer of 2026.

Matsima had found appearances hard to come by under Adi Hütter and had only been used sparingly playing only six times under the Austrian coach. At Clermont, Matsima will likely have a long run in the team as the side attempt to stave off relegation for another season.

The French centre-back has already made 36 appearances in Ligue 1 since graduating to the first team in 2020 but has left to find some more consistent game time ahead of the Olympic games this summer, where the defender hopes to join up with Thierry Henry’s Espoirs.

As Matsima stated in his opening interview at his temporary club, “I lacked playing time, so coming here is an opportunity for me to show what I can do on the pitch in order to put all the chances on my side to claim a place at the Olympics this summer.”
