Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford.
The 31-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners in a deal worth an initial £10 million plus £2 million in add-ons.
Norgaard arrives at the Emirates Stadium following a highly successful six-year spell at Brentford, where he made 196 appearances across all competitions.
Known for his leadership qualities and physical presence, the Denmark international will bring experience and stability to Arsenal’s midfield.
Jorginho and Thomas Partey have left the club this summer, and the Gunners needed to acquire a quality replacement.
Norgaard is looking forward to playing in the Champions League after revealing that he had already given up any hopes of featuring in Europe’s premier club competition.
“I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford,” he told Arsenal.com.
“Of course, there’s always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.
“Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.”
Norgaard is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer window, following Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, and the club is working on further additions.
They are currently in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal for Noni Madueke and remain keen on signing a striker despite their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres reportedly being in danger of collapsing.
