OGC Nice have confirmed the arrival of centre-back Mohamed Abdelmonem (25), whose move from Al-Ahly was held up by visa issues.
Following the departure of Jean-Clair Todibo, who has joined West Ham United, and the arrival of Franck Haise as manager, leading to Nice now playing with a back three, there has been a need to recruit at centre-back this summer. The arrival of Moïse Bombito is already official, with the Canada international presented to the press last Friday afternoon.
However, they have now secured another arrival – that of Abdelmonem. An agreement with the Egypt international’s club, Al-Ahly, was reached last week with the transfer thought to be worth around €5m, including bonuses, as per L’Équipe. It comes after a long wait to secure a visa.
“It is taking a bit of time,” said Le Gym president Jean-Pierre Rivère last Friday, referencing the visa hold-up. However, with the issue now resolved, Abdelmonem is now officially a Nice player, having signed a contract that runs until 2028.
