FC Metz have confirmed the departure of Laszlo Bölöni as first-team manager. He has been replaced by Stéphane Le Mignan as the club prepare for life back in Ligue 2.
Bölöni, in his two years with Les Grenats, took the club into Ligue 1 and then took them back down to Ligue 2. After a good start to the season, the Romanian was handed a contract extension until 2025, however, their form tailed off. By the end of the season, Metz were solely reliant on Georges Mikautadze to bail them out, which he almost did.
However, a defeat to AS Saint-Étienne in the relegation play-off saw Metz relegated and it was clear that Bölöni wouldn’t remain in his post. His departure was confirmed in a short press release on Thursday. Le Mignan’s arrival was confirmed just minutes later.
The 50-year-old arrives from Concarneau, a club that he took into Ligue 2 before relegation back to National 1 last season. He has signed a two-year deal with Metz.
