Brian Madjo (16) has already established himself as a starter at FC Metz. The centre-forward has been prolific at youth level and so has been fast-tracked into the first-team set-up, after signing his first professional contract earlier this summer.
Earlier this year, Madjo also made his Luxembourg debut in an international friendly against Sweden. That debut came just two months after his 16th birthday. However, the Metz forward has now turned down a call-up for Luxembourg, as confirmed by a federation spokesperson.
His decision not to honour the call-up is a sign that Madjo is considering his international future. He centre-forward was born in England (Enfield, North London), whilst his parents are also from Cameroon, meaning that the striker has other options.
Amid the standoff, Luxembourg’s football federation said that Madjo would not have made the decision to reject the call-up alone. A meeting with his representatives is expected to take place on Thursday.
